Competition propsal for a kindergarten with 116 children aged 1-6 years and family center/open kindergarten. The progam was ambitious and the city center site tight with highly restrictive planning criteria. This demanded new thinking of how all parts of the building and site could be optimised as a coordinated entity to serve the needs of the children. The feather-light, multi-layered playscape of natural and synthetic surfaces are wrapped in protective netting, fabric and recycled timber. Rainwater irrigates the roof-top greenhouse and is collected in a syphonic tank for regular entertainment.
