Speculatio Polaris

The Pole Star: Everything rotates beneath this star; it is the only fixed point in the universe.

Speculatio Polaris is a proposal for an observatory to view the Pole Star. It is located on the tidal plain between the Skógtjörn and Litlatjörn on the northern shore of Gardar, adjacent to the Álftanes peninsula, Iceland.

The form of the hewn basalt tower is reminiscent of the wooden observatory raised on a near-by site in 1789. The stone is the same as was used in the construction of the Gardar church in 1879.
